The company’s 14th production, KISS BILL 2nd Edition, harkens back to Love Letter to Tarantino a memorable piece by Paula de Vasconcelos produced by Montréal Danse in 1997 in collaboration with Pigeons International. With KISS BILL 2nd Edition (a spin-off of Quentin Tarantino’s film Kill Bill), Paula de Vasconcelos re-examines the place that violence still occupies our world today. In this new piece, a young woman is searching for Bill to forgive him for something terrible, done long ago, which almost took her life. Bill, a brilliant filmmaker, is enjoying fame and success with his action-based, gory films.

Just as in Kill Bill, the young woman must confront Bill’s collaborators. But her goal is to convert each one of them to a more altruistic vision of the world. The young woman looks for Bill in an effort to “embrace him” symbolically.

As in most of Pigeons International’s creations, the production focuses on the central theme of the piece rather than on its storyline. Through a unique blend of theatre and dance KISS BILL 2nd Edition is based on the metamorphosis of a universe devoid of humanity into a world of forgiveness and compassion.

Framed by a stunning scenography, lit by Canadian master lighting designer Michel Beaulieu, KISS BILL 2nd Edition is another example of Paula de Vasconcelos’ keen interest in visual composition and a vibrant testimony to the fertile fusion of dance and theatre. The piece seduces audiences with its robust humour, its exuberant choreographies, and the subtle and heart-felt transformation of a world of action and power into a gentle world of healing and redemption.

«KISS BILL’s impeccable Hollywood logic turns Tarantino’s satire on violence on its head. […] … the pace is faster, the dancing more vigorous, the humour more evident. It’s her most purely entertaining work in years.»

Victor Swoboda, The Gazette

Louise Forestier, Radio-Canada
