THANK GOD, YOUR BODY explores the links between body and soul through the various stages of a relationship between a man and a woman, some happy, others dark.

Short tableaux brought to life by exquisite puppets created by Marcelle Hudon and Claude Rodrigue are integrated into the story of these fiery but fragile lovers, giving us a candid perspective on our own bodies and humanity, paradoxically revealing both the frailty of the human condition and its sacred dimension.  The fragments of story of these little invented « people» echo the story of the young lovers, all tableaux speaking to something larger, embracing something called « life ».

The piece is also interspersed with moments that simply celebrate the pure joy of movement, the euphoria that emanates form the sheer pleasure of being alive and connected to others.

THANK GOD, YOUR BODY is also an exploration of the nude, as seen in painting or sculpture, a quiet contemplation of the mystery and beauty of the human body.

For almost twenty-five years now, Paula de Vasconcelos has dedicated herself passionately to the theme of the « other ».  In each of her creations she explores all of its multiple facets and digs heartily into all the possibilities that the scenic arts offer her. Her work is inclusive of various disciplines and artists of all backgrounds.

In THANK GOD, YOUR BODY, dance and theatre meet and marry, in the hope that the one is the necessary and liberating extension of the other.

...the wonders never ceased... the highly stylized setting, like the stylized gestures of all of the scenes involving nudity, gave dignity to the performers. For both choreographer and performers, it was a triumph.

Victor Swoboda,  The Gazette
